Forsyth County Update

By Bryan Long, V.P.

Structure work has begun in Winston-Salem. Our grading subcontractor, Lynn Thomas Grading (LTG), began preparing access to the bridge site in November of 2005. They have completed the clearing and grubbing and began placing the end bent fills. In a joint effort between Dane, APAC, LTG, and Delta Milling the temporary widening of I-40 West bound was completed in early January which has allowed structure work to commence. James Cash and Adrian Noriega’s crews have been working on the I-40 median interior bent for the new Hanes Mall Boulevard Bridge.

During the next month we plan to complete the three interior bents for the left lane bridge widening and begin culvert work. The culvert work will begin as soon as the sewer line relocation is complete.

Our goal is to have the culvert and all substructure work for both bridges completed prior to July 2006 when the structural steel will be ready for delivery.

I can’t leave out Tommy Ange and Bruce Horldt; they have both done an excellent job in keeping the project on track.

Good Job to everyone involved!

Certified Crane Operators!

By Pete Weber, Chief Estimator.

The students in the second crane class have taken their written exams. On behalf of the company; I would like to congratulate Allen Horton, Jim Parks, Adrian Noriega, (and myself) for passing all three exams, Lloyd Thompson for passing two exams, and Travis Mason for passing the core exam. This is a great reflection on the quality of the people that work for Dane Construction. This class and some of the members from the first class will complete their practical testing in the next few weeks and get full certification. Again, congratulations on a job well-done. Many hours of individual study went into preparation for these exams. Please make sure you congratulate these employees when you see them.

Crew of the Month

It was a three-way tie for first place this month. All three crews did such a good job that it seemed only fair to award three winners. The winners are: Hank Dayberry, Jesse Allen, Flay Crotts, Lloyd Thompson, Jesus Garcia, Moises Gonzalez, Alberto Santillan, Margarito Torres, Able Garcia, Travis Mason, Bernardo Aguilar, Roberto Gutierrez, Andres Juarez, Jose Ramirez.

Quotable

The Carolina Panthers had a great season. They were only one game from the Superbowl! Here are some of the team’s favorite sayings:

  • "No man is a loser who gives his best."
  • "Carolina Panthers: here, only your best is good enough."
  • "Failure to prepare is preparing to fail."
  • "Don’t be afraid to be great."
  • "Great players thrive on the pressure situations."
  • "Lead, follow or get out of the way."

Always keep in mind that we are a team.
